A few of my fave fall things (Over-the-knee boots, Happy Podcasts, Teen Reads … & more!)

Hey everyone! It’s been a while. Decided to blog today about a few things that I’ve been loving the last couple weeks. Fall is here in full force; Even though we’re nearing the end of the year, this season has always been a time for me to reflect and start anew. There’s nothing fresher to me than the autumnal breeze, freshly lit candles and yummy sweaters.

This Fall in particular is pretty special to me; it’s the first season post-undergrad that I have been working non-stop on my own projects, and not for other people. SHOP SPENNY is in a small lull right now, but prepping for holiday, and my youtube channel recently entered a phase that the kids like to call “viral”. Aside from my own scattered brain and natural anxiousness, I would say that it’s been alright over here at RachSpeed headquarters (aka my basement office, more on that later)!

Thank you so much for all the support thus far, all 11,926 of you!  I’m always looking for new ways to indulge, better myself, and of course, get inspired. Without further ado, here are a few things that I’ve been loving this Fall!

STYLE: OVER THE KNEE BOOTS

This is a given. If you’ve been catching up with me since last year, you would know these were an absolute staple in my closet through out Autumn and Winter. And… they’re back! I recently just filmed a video on a few of my fave ways to style them. These ones from Forever 21 look way more expensive than they actually were, and make every outfit look a little more put together.

READS: RAINA TELGEMEIER’S SMILE, SISTERS & DRAMA

My boyfriend’s sister lent me these, and she also just happens to be an incredible teacher! She’s always buffing up my book recommendations list, and let me borrow these three last week. I was hesitant at first to go the whole graphic novel route, but these are incredibly funny, cute and totally get you back to those nostalgic middle school days. They completely capture what it’s like to be an awkward twelve year old, and the illustrations are just as adorable as the characters’ personalities. I’m working on a project with a close friend where I have to channel my inner 13 year old, so this fit perfectly with that! I’m justing cracking open “Sisters” but I know it’s going to be a good one. I find myself reading them right before bed, just to help myself zone out and get ready for bedtime, rather than my usual not-so-great bedtime routine of looking at Instagram memes for an hour (but nonetheless just as funny).

PODCASTS: EARN YOUR HAPPY & #GIRLBOSS RADIO

SO… I know I’m very late on this trend, but podcasts have totally changed my life. A couple nights ago I went on a 30 minute ramble of how mind-blowing they are. The two I’ve been obsessed with are “Earn Your Happy” by Lori Harder, and “#GIRLBOSS Radio” by NastyGal founder, Sophia Amoruso.

FOR MORNINGS & TO START YOUR DAY:

I highly recommend “Earn Your Happy” to anyone who feels like they’re in a rut. It’s incredible to listen to some like-minded thinkers, and learn about new ways to make my life – dare I say it – more fulfilling? Corny, I know. But guys!! The words of this Podcast completely resonate with me, and always leave me feeling way more motivated and refreshed than I would have otherwise. It’s a great way to start your morning, and plus, you can also get things done as well. Lori touches on everything from physical health and making smart choices, to entrepreneurship. The guests she has on the show are also incredible, and I am always getting inspired by how they reached success. I love to listen to this one when I am just starting out my day. I love to simultaneously write in my planner as well. The other day I also listened to it whilst on the treadmill – it’s literally the perfect thing to listen to when you want to get moving, mentally and physically. ~ hashtag motivation ~

TO WORK TO:

Now working from home, it’s tough to be self-motivated. I’m still getting into the habit, but I’ve always been uncomfortable working in silence, especially when I am home alone. Podcasts completely fill that silent void for me, especially Sophia Amoruso’s. I’ve been a huge fan of her for years, and am looking forward to reading her latest book. In hers, she interviews fellow successful girl bosses who are killing the game. It’s nice to work to, especially when I have my hands full with sewing, screen printing or other SHOP SPENNY tasks.

SKINCARE: ORIGINS

So… dare I say it, but my family is VIB Rouge. For those non-Sephora addicts, this basically means that we spent a sh*t ton at the make-up euphoria. This also means that I’ll be shopping the sale soon! One thing that I will FOR SURE be picking up is the Origins Checks and Balances skin cleanser. I got the Origins point perk a couple weeks ago and am in love with all of their products. My skin just feels so clean and soft – a major feat for my super dry skin. I’ll be chatting about my Sephora picks soon so stay tuned for this!

MUSIC: BETTER MAN – LITTLE BIG TOWN & FIGURES – JESSIE REYEZ

These two songs are being played on repeat. I love sappy music to blog and write to. It helps me get to that place where I feel relaxed and more in touch with whatever I’m writing. I’m unapologetically a die-hard Taylor Swiftie, and this song written by her and performed by Little Big Town has got me feeling ALL the feels. It takes me back to her Speak Now and Fearless days. It’s what I love about country.
“Figures” is more gritty and for those who love Kehlani and Jhene Aiko. Jessie Reyez is one to watch!
